Out of one, many: distinguishing time delays from lensed supernovae

چکیده
ABSTRACT Gravitationally lensed Type Ia supernovae are an emerging probe with great potential for constraining dark energy, spatial curvature, and the Hubble constant. The multiple images their time delayed magnified fluxes may be unresolved, however, blended into a single light curve. We demonstrate methods without fixed source template matching extracting individual images, determining whether there one (no lensing) or two four (lensed) measuring delays between them that valuable cosmological probes. find 100 per cent success number of greater than ∼10 d.

Cosmological parameters from lensed supernovae
We investigate the possibility of measuring the Hubble constant, the fractional energy density components and the equation of state parameter of the " dark energy " using lensed multiple images of high-redshift supernovae. With future instruments, such as the SNAP and NGST satellites, it will become possible to observe several hundred lensed core-collapse supernovae with multiple images. Accura...
متن کاملMicrolensing of Lensed Supernovae
Given the number of recently discovered galaxy-galaxy lens systems, we anticipate that a gravitationally lensed supernova will be observed within the next few years. We explore the possibility that stars in the lens galaxy will produce observable microlensing fluctuations in lensed supernova light curves. For typical parameters, we predict that ∼70% of lensed SNe will show microlensing fluctuat...
متن کاملDecoding One Out of Many
Generic decoding of linear codes is the best known attack against most code-based cryptosystems. Understanding and measuring the complexity of the best decoding technique is thus necessary to select secure parameters. We consider here the possibility that an attacker has access to many cryptograms and is satisfied by decrypting (i.e. decoding) only one of them. We show that, in many cases of in...
متن کاملKernel regression estimates of time delays between gravitationally lensed fluxes
Strongly lensed variable quasars can serve as precise cosmological probes, provided that time delays between the image fluxes can be accurately measured. A number of methods have been proposed to address this problem. In this paper, we explore in detail a new approach based on kernel regression estimates, which is able to estimate a single time delay given several datasets for the same quasar. ...
متن کاملCellular signal processing: out of one, many.
Cells can make fate decisions in response to information from the environment. In this issue of Molecular Cell, Chen et al. (2012) describe how the design of a signal-processing pathway allows a homogenous population of cells to display diverse responses to uniform growth factor cues.
